Wine e-label and QR Code: what EU law requires
Since 8 December 2023, wines produced in the EU must show an ingredient list and a nutrition declaration. An e-label reached through a QR Code is the legal way to provide this without overloading the label.
Legal framework
Regulation (EU) 2021/2117 amended the CMO Regulation (EU) No 1308/2013 and made the nutrition declaration and ingredient list mandatory for wine products. Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/33 sets the compulsory label particulars, Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 sets the nutrition format and energy factors, and Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/1606 clarifies wine-specific ingredient names.
On the physical label
- Energy value per 100 ml (may be just «E» followed by kcal)
- Allergens such as «Contains sulphites» — never only on the e-label
- The QR Code, marked with «i» or the word «Ingredients»
- Category, PDO/PGI, alcohol % vol., volume, provenance, bottler and lot
On the e-label
The full ingredient list and the nutrition declaration per 100 ml (energy, fat, saturates, carbohydrate, sugars, protein, salt), in the languages of the market. No marketing and no tracking of consumers.
How EnoQR helps
Register the wine, pick ingredients from an oenological library with E numbers and allergens, calculate the nutrition declaration from lab results, validate against EU rules and publish a multilingual e-label with a permanent QR Code (PNG or SVG), with no cookies or tracking.
